Gamma chi

what is a gamma chi?

At The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, our Recruitment counselors are referred to as "Gamma Chis." Gamma Chis are members of the Panhellenic community and represent all 14 chapters. However, Gamma Chis cannot reveal what chapter they are in; this is referred to as "disaffiliation." When Gamma Chis disaffiliate from their own chapters, it allows them to guide PNMs through the Recruitment process without bias towards a specific chapter.

When PNMs go through Recruitment, they will be assigned a Gamma Chi group. During Gamma Chi Meet and Greet, Gamma Chis will give an overview of Recruitment and answer any questions PNMs will have. Each day during Recruitment, Gamma Chis will give PNMs their Recruitment schedules. PNMs are encouraged to rely on their Gamma Chis for advice and guidance throughout Recruitment.

Hear from some of our gamma chis:

“Becoming a Gamma Chi means having the opportunity to serve a community that is bigger than myself. Panhellenic has given me so much through my own chapter, and I wanted a way to give back on a broader scale. By becoming a Gamma Chi, I can help potential new members find a place where they feel they belong and begin a meaningful sorority experience of their own. Knowing that I can support PNMs as they navigate recruitment and help them find a home where they can grow, connect, and thrive is the reason I wanted to become a Gamma Chi.”

“As an out of state PNM, I came to Tennessee without having anyone I knew also coming to school here. I decided to go through primary recruitment to find my home and meet friends. However, it was scary going through recruitment without knowing anyone going through it with me. My Gamma Chi became my first friend at Tennessee, and she was there for me throughout the entire process. She made sure I never felt lonely and kept my spirits up during the whole week. I am so excited to meet all of the PNMs this year, and I hope to help them through this process and become more than just their Gamma Chi, but their friend!”

“Being a Gamma Chi means so much to me. This is my second year doing it and I am so honored to be able to help more PNMs through such a special process. I absolutely love my Panhellenic chapter but there is something extra special about being able to step outside and see the Panhellenic community as a whole working together. The other Gamma Chis I met, previous PNMs, and future PNMs are all the reason I love this position. I am so excited for my second recruitment as a Gamma Chi and so humbled to be able to do it again!!”
